“Aitken designed the table, which can be played like a xylophone.”
The house is the world’s first temple to “Acid Modernism,” the aesthetic the California-born Aitken conceived for himself and Gemma Ponsa, his companion of the last six years. “The goal was to create a warm, organic modernism that’s also perceptual and hallucinatory,” he said of the design. “We thought that would be a wonderful environment to live in.” (NYT)
Inbox, 2007. Amanda Ross-Ho (US, born 1975). Fiberglass and cat litter.
Amanda Ross-Ho’s work utilizes the residue of everyday life and the poetry of things overlooked. As she explains, “I’ve come to think of everything in the studio - from art materials, tools and source material, to trash and cat toys - as if it were organic material. I’m collaborating with things that have their own charge.” Inbox plays with popular culture and language as well as the traditions of appropriation and assemblage.
